Baptism

Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation for Adults-RCIA:
Adults who have never been Baptized or Baptized but never received the Eucharist and/or been confirmed in the Catholic Church are prepared at special only adult classes. We especially welcome inquires from other denominations or religions. The Sacraments are received at the Easter Vigil or Pentecost. Classes begin the fall but we have many activities during the year. Parents may contact the parish office to arrange for the baptism of their child at least one month in advance. Infant baptisms are held on the 3rd Sunday of the month at one of our weekend masses. Parent must be registered in Our Lady of Light or the parish they attend and participate in a Baptismal Preparation class.

Religious Education for School Aged Children

Religious Education for School Aged Children

Location and times: Formal Religious Education takes place in the Church Halls each week from fall until the end of the spring term. Classes are from 8:15am – 9:45am followed by the 10am Mass at St. Pascal’s Church and 10:15am – 11:45am followed by the Noon Mass at St. Catherine’s Church.

Ages and requirements: The program welcomes children three years old up to and including High School students who have not received their Sacraments. Attendance is taken and recorded.

Parental Responsibilities: Parents or Guardians are expected to attend Mass with their children and to attend parental preparation classes for Sacraments and the “We Believe” program.

Parish Responsibilities: The Parish will provide an experienced and properly credentialed director for Life Long Faith Formation and properly trained and certified teachers (Catechists). Only textbooks and other materials approved by the Diocese of Brooklyn are used.

Nothing but the celebration of Mass has a greater priority than Religious Education in Our Lady of Light.

Reception of Sacraments for School Aged Children

Children must be registered in the Religious Education Program of Our Lady of Light. Baptism is usually celebrated the Sunday after Easter for those enrolled in the program the previous fall. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is usually received in the 2nd grade and First Communion in the 3rd. Confirmation is a multiyear program and is received together with several other churches. The public ceremonies with the children in preparation for each Sacrament and mini retreats are provided. A small fee is required for Confirmation. The Sacrament of Marriage

Since Catholic marriage requires a time of preparation, arrangements should begin at least six months before the proposed date of the wedding to allow for the Marriage Preparation Program. Registered, participating and contributing parishioners, not a third party, may contact the parish office, 718-528-1220, to begin the process.

Pastoral Care of the Sick

Pastoral Care of the Sick

If you are entering the hospital for surgery, experiencing a prolonged or serious illness, or are very weak due to the advancement of age, call the parish office to arrange for the Sacraments of reconciliation, communion and anointing at home. We can also arrange for a Eucharistic Minister to continue to visit you with the Blessed Sacrament. We are here to serve you, please call 718-528-1220.

Funerals

Funerals

The family member or friend handling the funeral arrangements are asked to contact the pastor to arrange a consolation visit from one of the Priests. He will help you with any questions you may have with planning the Wake and Funeral Mass. The Parish wishes to be with you at this moment of need, the funeral director must initiate all other arrangements involving the church. Strict adherence Roman Catholic Ritual for Funerals will be followed in all parish-involved activities.

The Parish provides lifelong religious formation through Fall and Spring terms of the Little Rock Scripture Program, Sharing of the Sunday Scriptures and Fall and Spring Session of Father Barrons’s “Catholicism Series”. Contact Sister Mary Jane Rolston, 718-528-1220, for locations and times.
